Paper from China is made from all sorts of different materials. (Bamboo, mulberry bark, sandalwood and linen to name but a very few of those materials.)

It is often called Xuan paper because that is the name of the most famous paper making town in China.

Unsized, absorbent paper, often made from sandalwood, is called sheng xuan paper.

Semi-sized paper is known as ban shu and totally sized paper, on which meticulous work can be done, is called shu xuan paper.

Paper comes in all colours and can have fine gold or silver leaf decorations scattered through it.
